Proud to be an Ilonggo

I am an Ilonggo by birth and by choice I am a resident and blessed to be an official of Iloilo City. This picture was taken during my baptism when I was only 1 month young. I am with my Nanay and Tatay.

During my toddler years...

May 1, 2009

Even in my growing up years due to schooling in Metro Manila, I always proudly say that I am an Ilonggo and I speak Hiligaynon. I believe that the best people come from Western Visayas especially from the Province and City of Iloilo.

When I was sent to lend support and my presence during the Aliwan Festival where our Dinagyang, Kasadyahan and Paraw Regatta Festivals were ably represented, I felt so much pride to see our contingents display their talent and how much appreciation the audience showed by the loud claps and voices of support even from non Western Visayas audiences. I was also happy that the Iloilo Basketball Team won as National PRISAA Basketball Champion as I was informed by a good friend who told me about it a day before the highlight of the Aliwan Festival.

There are also a lot of Ilonggos who are now serving the national government in all branches. There are also a lot of Ilonggo entrepreneurs who have made it big. Moreover, in any field or career, Ilonggos shine and lead the way. Truly, great talents and minds have been blessed to our people.

As such, I will always and forever proudly say to the world that I am an Ilonggo. If in the event I would be asked to chose, what nationality I would want to have, I will always choose to be an Ilonggo Pinoy.

Some say that the true measure of a good and real friend is the number of quality long relationships he has kept over the years. How many elementary, high school and college friends do we still have constant communication with? How many of them do we share our most memorable moments with? How great is the bond that even beyond distance and physical absence, the closeness still remains?

Old friends are our connections to our past and to the growth we have experienced and gone through. They are the ones who know us inside and out and who stay when the false friends are gone. They are there to give us support and strength. They are there to share the most important times of our lives from the happiest to the saddest.

I am blessed and thankful to have my La Salle Green Hills barkada still intact as well as my Ateneo De Manila University barkada. These are my friends who saw me develop as a young boy to become a young man and who went through all of the process of growth. I usually still meet up with them every time I am in Metro Manila. As they say, true friends are hard to find, I’m glad I found a lot of real friends in my life.

Let us value special people in our lives. Let us make sure that we thank and recognize their worth and value.

Are you always in a rush? Do you feel that life is too short? Do you think that there are so many things to do within a day but there is so little time?

Well, many have thought of such and I am not an exception. We always rush to school, rush to work, rush our dreams and rush other things. It seems that we always want to finish first.

There is nothing wrong with doing such. Maybe these people believe in the value of time and they want to maximize the time that they have. This might go well with what I believe in that “life is too short, everyone deserves to be happy”.

The problem with rushing things though is the quality, a good foundation and the experience needed for it to last might be lacking. There is also a lack of needed information to make a well thought of decision. Aside from that, what if a better or the best opportunity passes one by after he grabs what was before that? Then, he is stuck with something that he chose before he saw a better one.

Thus, it is also good to take your time. Think things over. Analyze things well. This will lead to a decision that one can truly stand by with.

Let us be more rational and give more thought of things before we take the plunge. As they say, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Better than being Idle

I remember when I was much younger that I was complaining to my parents how busy I was because I have to study for so many subjects and had to do so many things. Tatay just smiled while my Nanay told me, “It’s better to be busy than to be idle”.

I thought about what my Nanay said. Moreover, she told me when one is idle, there is a chance that you think of negative things and you entertain negative thoughts. What she said truly made sense. It is at the time when we don’t do anything or our mind isn’t busy that we think of the most negative things that brings about paranoia, jealousy, envy, lust, greed and the like. These things aren’t healthy thoughts and they could lead us to do or say some things that we might regret it the future.

So, when you feel that you are too busy or you have a full day or schedule, be thankful because you are blessed with work and other things. It is better than not doing anything and being lazy and unproductive. We also make sure that our mind is used and its potential is reached.

Let’s start being busy with stuff.

Luck is defined by Microsoft Thesaurus as chance, fate, providence and good fortune. Blessings are defined by Microsoft Thesaurus as approval, miracle and a good thing.

Who feels he or she is lucky or otherwise? Who is thankful of the blessings he or she has received? I am sure there are some of us who believe we’ve been lucky in life and there are some who think they have been blessed. How great it would be if we are both lucky and blessed.

I always have believed that one works hard for something in order to obtain it. The more we toiled for something we want, the more value it has. Although, one seems to be truly lucky that everything goes his or her way and God gives the go signal for something to be given to us. It apparently seems that hard work, determination, persistence, luck and blessing work hand in hand for something to transpire.

I hope, pray and wish that each of us will work hard but also be lucky and blessed for us to reach our dreams and desires in life.
