The Value of Women

For centuries, women were seen and considered as 2nd class citizens together with the youth and elderly sectors. They had less rights and privileges as compared to men in the early generations. They were not allowed to vote, to study or to have office work. They were apparently basically seen as individuals meant to handle home concerns and just had to follow orders from men in their family.
Today, things have changed. Women now can vote and are even voted for sensitive and powerful positions in government. They now have doctoral degrees and even learn multiple languages. Some are even CEO’s of the well known and well respected companies in the Philippines and abroad. Truly, women have come a long way but it seems that each of the accolades and recognitions that they have were hard earned. They had to prove their worth and now they have made it.
Gender is not the issue in success or in reaching one’s dreams. It is about hard work and perseverance. One very important trait people say that Filipinos have is being resilient. It was a trait of being hardy, flexible, strong and durable which were usually associated with the male gender. Nowadays, resiliency is also something which a lot of women have.
Ginaplanu ko man mag-ubra sang isa ka pagahiwatun nga Model Ilongga or Most Outstanding Ilongga of the Year para tagaan pasidungog ang kaayuhan sang kababainhan. Kaupod ini nga planu sang pagubra sang Most Outstanding Ilonggo Youth kag Love for Elderly Excellence.
I have always believed in empowering the marginalized sectors in our society and of which the women sector is part of. Even in my office, I have women staffs who occupy important positions. I have seen them work and they do work well.
Tani indi lang subong nga bulan sang Marso nga bulan sang kababainhan natun sila tagaan importansya kundi sa adlaw adlaw natun nga kabuhi.
